British elite athlete Gregory Rutherford, the current Olympic champion in the long jump, won at the Bislett Games in Oslo, Norway yesterday, the 11th of June. The games are part of the Diamond League championships. With a jump of 8.25m, he took top prize in Oslo.
The 28-year-old athlete continues a winning streak, having emerged victorious at last week’s Diamond League games in Birmingham. His closest competitor, 25-year-old Michael Hartfield of the USA, was, at 8.04, 21cm behind Rutherford.
British athletes have done well at this edition of the Games – 22-year-old Laura Muir of Scotland, who specialises in 800m, 1500m and 3000m races beat Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon of Kenya in the 1500m event, finishing with a time of 4min 00.39sec
Kaliese Spencer of Jamaica, a country known for its runners, has won every Diamond League 400m event she has participated in this year so far, and continued the streak at the Oslo games with a 54.15 finish. Spencer is the current reigning champion at 400m.
The Men’s edition of the 400m was won by Bahamian athlete Steven Gardiner, with a time of 44.64 seconds, which is his personal best. Briton Matthew Hudson-Smith was second behind Gardiner with a time of 45.09.
The 100m event at the Bislett Games was won by Murielle Ahure of the Ivory Coast, who completed it in 11.03s. 200m at the Mens’ was won by French athlete Christopher Lemaitre, finishing in 20.21.
Jasmin Stowers of the United States of America emerged victorious at the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 12.84, edging out compatriot Brianna Rollins in the process.
The Dream Mile, an annual mile race run at the Bislett Games, was dominated by Kenyan athletes. Asbel Kiprop won with a time of 3min51.45sec, beating his compatriot and reigning Commonwealth Games champion Silas Kiplagat, who had a time of 3:51.72
