Emily Sission is an American long distance runner. She rose to fame during her high school years when she set the U.S. national record for high school girls in the 5000 metres with a time of 15:48.91. This was followed by a bronze medal at the 2007 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships. Moreover, during her college years, she became two-time NCAA Champion in the 5000m category and set the collegiate indoor record for women in the same event in addition to ten All-American honors. Sission became professional in 2015 after signing a contract with New Balance.
Moving forward, she was placed first at the USATF 10K Championships in 2016, first at USA 5 km Championships in 2018 and first at USA National Championship 15K at Gate River Run. Notably, at the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon, she ran her first 26.2-mile race and finished in sixth place in 2:23:08, the quickest debut time by an American on a course eligible for records. This was followed by breaking the half-marathon record at the USATF Half Marathon Championships in May 2022 and a North American record at the Chicago Marathon in October 2022.

Providence has won 22 Big East crowns, 14 NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships, and the NCAA Cross Country Championships in 1995 and 2013.
Treacy has trained nine runners from Providence to win individual 1,500–10,000-meter track titles at the NCAA level. Under Treacy's guidance, Julian Oakley became the eighth Friar to run a sub-four-minute mile in 2015. Sisson was a three-time NCAA champion, an eleven-time All-American, and an eleven-time champion of the Big East Conference. Moreover, Treacy's student-athletes have represented Ireland in the Olympics in Atlanta in 1996, Sydney in 2000, and Athens in 2004.
