Erriyon Knighton, born on January 29, 2004, has rapidly ascended as an American sprinting sensation, specializing in both the 100 meters and 200 meters disciplines. His early foray into track and field started in 2019 during his freshman year at Hillsborough High School in Tampa, Florida. Knighton showcased his exceptional talent by clocking an impressive 20.33 seconds over 200 meters at the 2020 USA Track & Field Junior Olympics, securing the second-fastest time for an under-18 athlete in the world.


In 2021, at just 16 years old, Knighton inked a sponsorship deal with Adidas, forgoing his final two years of amateur competition at Hillsborough High. This decision proved fruitful as he broke the 10-second barrier in the 100 meters, recording 9.99 seconds at the PURE Athletics Sprint Elite Meet. Knighton further made history by setting the world under-18 record in the boys' 200 meters with a time of 20.11 seconds, surpassing Usain Bolt's mark. The young sprinter continued to astound at the US Olympic Trials, improving his record to 19.88 seconds in the semi-finals and eventually securing a spot at the postponed 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.


At the Tokyo Games, Knighton, representing the United States, became the youngest male track and field athlete since 1964. While finishing fourth in the 200-meter final with a time of 19.93 seconds, he displayed immense potential on the global stage. In the 2022 World Athletics Championships, where he secured the bronze medal. Adding to his accolades, Knighton became the youngest winner of a Diamond League race with a victory in Brussels on September 2.
