Who is Fiona O’Keeffe’s Coach?

Alistair and Amy Cragg, two former Olympic distance runners, are the coaches for O'Keeffe.

Alistair, born in Johannesburg in 1980, is an international track and field athlete who has resided in England and the United States. He competes primarily over 3000 and 5000 meters and races for Ireland. He owns the Irish national records in both the 5000 and 10,000 meters and the 5 km European road running record.

Amy, born in 1984, is an American track and field athlete with a focus on long-distance running competitions. She qualified for the Summer Olympics in 2012, won the American marathon championship in 2015, and won the 10,000-meter championship in 2012. Hastings, who completed her high school education at Leavenworth High School, won the state cross-country championship and three track titles.

She is among the all-time greats to have worn the maroon and gold and is ranked second in ASU history with ten total All-America accolades. Hastings won the NCAA Women's Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships in 2006, winning the 5,000-meter event.

An outline of Alistair Cragg’s athletic career.

South African cross-country athlete Alistair Cragg, a former South African coach, was a major player in the sport. His father, Duncan, is a retired coach who currently lives in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Alistair broke SMU freshman records in the 5000 m at the NCAA Championship meet and finished as the highest freshman finisher after suffering an injury during his rookie season. After the death of one of Cragg's brothers, he left SMU and moved to Arkansas with coach John McDonnell.

Cragg made his debut for Ireland in 2003, qualifying for an Irish passport in 1985. He placed eighth at the 2003 European Cross Country Championships and won gold medals in the 3,000-meter event and the 5000-meter event at the 2005 European Indoor Championships. However, he missed most of the outdoor season due to injuries.

In 2007, Cragg broke the seven-year-old Irish record for the distance and set Olympic 'A' standards in the 1500, 5000, and 10,000 meters, qualifying him for the 2008 Olympics. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, he placed sixth in the 5000m and advanced to his second Olympic final as the quickest loser.

Internationally, Cragg won the 2009 Irish 5000-meter title and posted one of his greatest 5,000-meter times at the Adidas Track Classic in Carson, California. He also finished second at the Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Half Marathon in January 2011.

In 2011, he qualified for the 5000-meter final at the 13th IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Daegu, South Korea, but finished fourteenth overall. He ran the 5000 meters again at the London Olympics, coming in 17th in his heat in 13:47.01.
