Heath Baldwin, born on February 8, 2001, is a Kalamazoo native who will be competing in his first Olympics with the USA decathlon team. He attended Hackett Catholic Prep School, where he was a multi-sport athlete and played American football, baseball, and basketball. Baldwin was a five-time MHSAA Division 4 State Champion.
Heath Baldwin started his track and field journey at Michigan University before transferring to MSU for his junior year. Since his transfer, Baldwin has become a force for the Spartans breaking school records in decathlon and heptathlon. He has consistently performed in both indoor and outdoor track and field championships and took home the Big Ten heptathlon in 2023.
Baldwin opted out of the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships in June to focus on the Olympic trials. In July, Baldwin scored a personal-best 8,625 points and won the U.S. Track and Field trials in Eugene, Oregon. His points were the six best score in the world this year which helped him cement a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 23-year-old is the first Spartan to qualify for the Olympic decathlon since Paul Terek in 2004.
