New Delhi - Discus thrower Krishna Poonia, the first Indian female athlete to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal, will be sponsored by Vedanta Group company Hindustan Zinc for two years.
Poonia, who was conferred the Arjuna Award in 2010 and Padma Shri in 2011, will sign the MoU Thursday in Udaipur, a statement by the group said.
“Vedanta’s group company Hindustan Zinc is sponsoring me and I am very happy that corporates like Vedanta are promoting sports persons,” said Poonia, a two-time Asian Games medallist.
Pavan Kaushik, head – corporate communication of Hindustan Zinc, said: “The company has been supporting players earlier as well and Krishna Poonia is a symbol of pride for the women athletes in India and we are quite pleased to sponsor her.”
