Hobbs Kessler is an American middle-distance runner, who represented the United States in the 2024 Paris Olympics. In June 2024, he finished third in the 1500m and second in the 800m at the 2024 United States Olympic Trials, and qualified for the Olympics in both events. With this, he became the first athlete from the USA to qualify for the Olympic 1500 and 800 double since 1976.
In 2021, Kessler turned professional after high school and began competing professionally for Adidas. Over the years, Kessler made many records, including the North American U20 record in the 1500 meters, in 2021 he completed the race in 3:34.36 and set the record. He also holds the world record in the road mile set at the 2023 World Road Running Championships, however, his record was broken by Emmanuel Wanyonyi in April 2024.
Kessler was a multitalented athlete since childhood. In his youth, he was a national-caliber rock climber. He represented the USA in multiple events, including the IFSC Climbing Youth World Championships. Kessler completed his high school, from Skyline High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan where his father was the high school track coach, in his senior year. He decided to attend Northern Arizona University in September 2020.
