Olympian Nicolas Young was born on July 27, 2002, in Camarillo, California, United States to parents Lynne Young and Andrew Lynn. Nicolas' brothers, Leo Young and Lex Young, are both long-distance runners as well. Nicolas is currently ranked 17th in the men's 10,000 meters and 107th in the men's 5,000 meters. Prior to securing a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics, he achieved victory twice in the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter events at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Nicolas enrolled at Newbury Park High School in Newbury Park, California in 2019. While attending high school, he set a new American high school record in the 3-mile cross-country race at the 2019 Woodbridge Invitational. He was also honored with both the 2019-20 XC and Track & Field National Gatorade Player of the Year awards, marking the first time an athlete has claimed both titles in the same season.
After graduating from high school, he won the Arcadia Championship in the 3200 meters, became a two-time California XC State Champion (2018 and 2019), clinched the individual title at the 2019 California State Championships, secured the individual title at the Mountain Regional Championships and earned All-American honors by placing second at the 2022 NCAA National Championships.

Nicolas Young's personal best for the 3,000 meters was 7:37.73 in December 2023. He recorded a time of 12:57.14 in the 5,000 meters in January 2024 and just a couple of months later, in March 2024, he achieved the 10,000 meters in 26:52.72. In the middle distances, he clocked a time of 1:47.65 in the 800 meters in April 2024 and completed the 1,500 meters in 3:34.56 in May 2024.
