Inderjeet Singh’s gold winning streak continued as he finished on top-of-the-podium yet again, in the third leg of the Asian Grand Prix Games, that were held in Chanthaburi, Thailand with an effort of 19.83m in the finals of the Shot Put event on Monday.
Wang Guangfu of China finished second with an effort of 19.55m while his fellow countrymen Guo YanXiang finished with the bronze medal with an effort of 18.92m. With this medal, Inderjeet joins Jinson Johnson(800m) to become the second Indian athlete to win the gold in all the three of the event.
It has been an unbelievable last 2 months for the 26-year-old athlete from Haryana, who qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics by winning the gold at the Federation Cup in Mangalore, last month. He backed that up with another gold at the Asian Athletics Championships, in Wuhan, China at the start of June.
He won his third straight gold on the trot at the opening leg of the Asian Grand Prix Games last week and then followed that with yet another gold in the second leg in the same week and in the process also created a new Asia Grand Prix record.
India would be hoping that Inderjeet continues his excellent form and brings more laurels for the country.
Earlier Jinson Johnson won his third straight gold in the Asian Grand Prix Games with a timing of 1:50.56, finishing ahead of Herath Induril of Sri Lanka and Moselem Niadoost of Iran.
Devindar Singh clinched India's third Gold of the day in the Javelin Throw event, with a throw of 76.61m.
