Jacob Wooten is an American pole vaulter who qualified for his first Olympics in Paris this year. He started his track and field at a very nascent stage by following his father, a pole vaulter at Baylor University. Wooten attended the Tomball Memorial High School where he won the 2015 UIL 5A State Championship in pole vault with a 17-0 mark. He was also placed sixth at the 2015 USATF junior championship. After a successful prep career, Wooten signed a letter of intent to pursue his collegiate career with Texas A&M University.
Wooten appeared in seven NCAA finals appearances with the Aggies in the next four seasons. In his senior campaign for Texas A&M, Wooten won a silver medal in the SEC Championships and nabbed the SEC indoor title in 2018. Wooten was a four-time All-American and bagged the NCAA West regional thrice in his collegiate career. Wooten delivered his personal best of 5.90 meters at the International Urban Pole Vault Meeting in Mexico. In the U.S. track and field trials in Eugene, Wooten recorded a season-best vault of 19-3 and secured his spot in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
