Two-time Olympic silver medalist Joe Kovacs is a professional shot-putter from Nazareth, Pennsylvania. According to World Athletics, he is ranked No. 2 in men's shot put as of May 2024. Joe won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics with a throw of 21.78 meters, and he won another silver medal in 2020 Tokyo with a throw of 22.65 meters.

In the World Championships, he won two gold medals in 2015 Beijing and 2019 Doha, two silver medals in 2017 London and 2022 Eugene, and most recently a bronze medal in 2023 Budapest. Also, he won the 2022 and 2023 Diamond Leagues.

A six-foot, 295 pound shot-putter is "little Joey" for his mother, Joanna, who was also his first coach and a 12-time district level throwing champion. Ashley Kovacs, his wife and a former shot putter and throwing coach at Vanderbilt, has been his coach since 2019.

Kovacs most recently threw 22.93 meters at Drake Stadium in Los Angeles in May 2024, coming the closest to his personal best of 23.23 meters in 2022 Zurich.
