Kenny Bednarek 100m

Kenny Bednarek is ranked world No. 1 in men's 200m by the World Athletics as of May 2024. He attained the latter status after his 2024 Doha Diamond League meeting, which he finished in 19.67 seconds. In 2019, however, he finished 200 m in 19.49 seconds at Hobbs, New Mexico, but was assisted by a 6.1 m/s tailwind, which is way above the legal limit of 2 m/s and is thus not recorded.

Bednarek is from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was born on October 14, 1998. He went to Rice Lake High School in Wisconsin, followed by Indian Hills Community College. He's been taking part in athletics since second grade, along with his twin brother, Ian. In 2018, he ran a 200-meter high school event with a time of 20.43, setting a new national record.

Bednarek turned professional in 2019 and joined hands with Nike. He has won several titles, including silver medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 Eugene World Championship. At the former event, he finished in 19.68 seconds and at the latter, he finished in 19.77 seconds.

In Eugene, Oregon, in June 2021, Kenny Bednarek set a personal best time of 9.89 seconds with a legal tailwind of +0.8 m/s. He came in fourth at the event, while Traywon Bromell won as he finished in 9.76 seconds with 1.2 m/s tailwind.

Bednarek won the 100 meters at the Tom Jones Memorial, Percy Beard Track, Gainesville, on April 13, 2024, in 10.1 seconds. A week later, he won at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, finishing 100 meters in 9.91 seconds with a tailwind of 2.2 m/s, defeating Ferdinand Omanyala in the rain-soaked Nyayo National Stadium.

Most recently, in May 2024, veteran American track and field great Justin Gatlin gave Kenny Bednarek plenty of praise, stating that Bednarek could surprise onlookers by finishing under 10 seconds in a 100-meter event with a time of 9.80 seconds.
