Lalita Babar created a new meet record in the 3000m steeplechase event after clocking a timing of 9.39.83 at the 2015 National Open Athletics Championships, that is currently being held at the Sports Authority of India, East Centre in Kolkata.That timing also helped her win the gold medal.
Following her in second place was Sudha Singh, who finished with a timing of 9.47.31. Babar has had a good time in the year 2015, having qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics after winning the gold at the Asian Athletics Championships with a time of 9:34.13.

At the recent IAAF World Championships, Babar broke the national record by clocking a time of 9:27.86, which helped her finish 4th in the Heats and book a place in the finals. She eventually finished in 8th place in the finals.
At the Asian Games in Incheon last year, Babar won the bronze medal after finishing the race with a time of 9:35.37.
