Michael Norman is an Olympic sprinter born in San Diego, California, on December 3, 1997. He shot to international fame in 2016 when he won a 200-meter semifinal heat against Justin Gatlin while still a high school student. Gatlin is a former Olympic champion, with one gold, two silvers and two bronze medals.

In track and field, Norman was the 2015 and 2016 Gatorade Player of the Year and the recipient of the 2018 Bowerman Award. Further, he won two gold medals at the 2016 World Junior Championships.

At the 2019 Mt. SAC Relays, he set his personal best in 400 meters in 43.45 seconds, which ties him for fourth place all-time; he turned professional in 2019. Notably, at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, he won a gold medal in the 4×400 m relay for a time of 2:55.70.

Norman has run 100 meters in under 10 seconds (9.86) in 2020, 200 meters in under 20 seconds (19.70) in 2019, and 400 meters in under 44 seconds (43.45) in 2019, making him one of three men who have achieved such feats, alongside Wayde Van Niekerk and Fred Kerley.
