In 2022, Sha’Carri Richardson's ex-girlfriend Janeek Brown admitted that she abused the 100m world champion while they were dating in 2019. Initially, when Richardson publicly opened up about her failed relationship in 2022, her partner denied the allegations against her.
Ex-couple Sha’Carri Richardson and Janeek Brown first began dating in 2019 after they met at an award show. The 19-year-old Richardson and 21-year-old Brown were publicly open about their relationship.
However, their relationship did not last long. In 2022, Richardson came out on her Instagram to talk about her breakup. In her post, she revealed that her relationship with Brown was abusive and that the couple faced frequent fights.
As a result, Richardson’s fans heavily criticized Brown on social media. Brown also took to her Instagram to hit back at her, denying the allegations and claims made by her ex-partner.
Sha’Carri Richardson then conducted an Instagram Live just before competing at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon. She defended Brown and accepted that both of them were responsible for damaging their relationship.
Days later, Janeek Brown finally confronted her fans, accepting the allegations that Richardson had earlier made against her.
During a virtual interview with @BwouaTingz, she admitted her mistakes. She said:
“I was abusive once that there’s physical evidence of.”
She added that she was trying to be a better person, saying:
“And we moved on, and even after then I was trying to move on from that, we still got nowhere. …Yeah, I was going through something – I was finding myself, that’s why I am coming to social media, you feel me?” she said. “So yeah, it’s a transformation; I’m going to find myself now. I may look different now.”
Sha’Carri Richardson faced hard times in 2022 before making her comeback in 2023
The year 2021 and 2022 were a series of downs for Sha’Carri Richardson. She was supposed to compete in the Tokyo Olympics but was disqualified after the trials due to failed drug test.
Sha’Carri Richardson accepted that she consumed marijuana to combat the depression that she suffered from her biological mother’s demise that year.
However, when she tried to make a comeback, the athlete failed to qualify for the 2022 World Championships.
In 2023, the world saw a much stronger version of the 23-year-old as she qualified for the 2023 World Championships. Richardson went on to become the 100m World Champion and also anchored victory for Team USA in the 4x100m relay race.
