After a gap 0f 32 years, India finally had a representative in the men’s marathon. Ram Singh Yadav finished 76th out of 105 runners in 2:20:36 – a full 19.24 behind gold medalist KIPROTICH Stephen of Uganda. Ram Singh was in touching distance with the lead group for the first 15km, but could not match the African athletes pace. Overall Ram Singh’s efforts should boost marathon running among the Indian runners.
