India’s hopes of a medal in athletics saw another disppointment as sprinter Muhammed Anas Yahiya failed to qualify for the semi-final round of the men’s 400m event as he could not finish inside the top three in his heat. The top three sprinters from each heat qualified for the semi-finals along with the next three fastest. Unfortunately, Anas’ time was not good enough to allow him to qualify as one of the fastest sprinters in his heat.
The Indian could only manage a finish at the 6th spot in his heat where Brunei’s Ali Khamis Khamis, Bahamas’ Steven Gardiner and Netherlands’ Liemarvin Bonevacia saw themselves advance to the semi-finals. Anas had fallen behind due to his timing of 45.95 seconds which could not see him recover in time to qualify as one of the fastest three in his heat as the fastest time had been set by Khamis at 45.12 seconds.
Anas could have qualified for the semi-finals but missed by just 0.04 seconds in the standings as the other top three fastest sprinters.
Along with the athletes listed below three other fastest athletes also qualified for the semi-finals – Rafal Omelko (Poland), Pavel Meslak (Czech Republic) and David Verburg (USA).
