Manpreet Kaur becomes the second shot putter from India to qualify after Inderjeet Singh

India found a second qualifier in the Shot Put event at the 2016 Rio Olympics, after Manpreet Kaur qualified for the marque event with a throw of 17.96 m at the National Open Athletics Championships at the Sports Authority of India, East Centre in Kolkata. The qualification mark for Rio being 17.80.
Manpreet had earlier in the year won gold at the Federation Cup, where she had put forth an effort of 16.20m to clinch the gold medal. The 25-year-old had won a gold at last year’s National Open Athletics Championships as well when she had put forth an effort of 16.39m which helped her win a gold medal.

Manpreet now becomes the 12th Indian athlete to make the cut for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
