The 24-year old athlete’s journey in track and field began in her childhood, following in the footsteps of her athletic family. Her father, Willie McLaughlin, was a semi-finalist in the 400 metres at the 1984 Olympic Trials, while her mother, Mary, was a successful high school track athlete.

McLaughlin-Levrone's talent became evident during her high school years at Union Catholic Regional High School in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. She made history as the first two-time Gatorade Player of the Year in Track & Field. Her breakthrough came in 2016 when she qualified for the U.S. Olympic team, becoming the youngest athlete (aged 16) to do so in track and field since 1980.
