Usain Bolt's lucky escape from 5am road crash

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AFP) –

A grinning Usain Bolt is cheered by fans after he won the men’s 100m at the Diamond League athletics meeting at Bislett Stadium in Oslo on June 7. Bolt, the world’s fastest man, walked away uninjured from a minor road accident early on Sunday as he travelled home from a party in Jamaica.

Bolt, also the world record holder in the 100 and 200m sprints, was involved in an accident in a busy part of Jamaica’s capital called Half Way Tree just after 5:15am on his way home from a party.

The 25-year-old, who has just returned to the Caribbean island after racing three times in Europe over recent weeks, reportedly suffered no injuries and went home to rest.

Former 100m world record holder Asafa Powell, who has also been racing on the European circuit, was on the scene at the time but was travelling in another vehicle.

This is the second motor vehicle accident Bolt has been involved in over the past three years following the flipping of his German sportscar into a ditch in 2009 that left him with minor abrasions to his feet.
