Valerie Constien is an American professional track and field athlete. Born on March 21, 1996, she specializes in the 3000m steeplechase and mile events. A two-time Olympian, Constien's athletic journey started at Battle Mountain High School. She set multiple records before attending the University of Colorado to pursue a degree in Environmental Engineering.

Valerie Constien also coaches under Heather Burroughs. Heather Burroughs is the first female coach from Colorado to earn All-American honors in cross country three times. She is serving her 17th season on the University of Colorado staff. She assisted the head coach Mark Wetmore with both the men’s and women’s teams. She helped the team with 19 conference championship teams, six NCAA Championship teams, one individual NCAA Champion, and 156 All-Americans. In 2011, she was promoted to associate head coach after the team won the first Pac-12 Cross Country Championships.

Mark Wetmore Coaching Career

Wetmore started his coaching journey in 1970. He started coaching at a municipal children's team, which he named "Edge City Track Club" in 1972. The team expanded later with runners of all ages from eight to 60, known as the Mine Mt. Road Department. Following that, Mark took the position of assistant cross-country coach at Bernards High School. He coached there for almost 14 years and then moved to collegiate coaching.

He joined the University of Colorado in 1992 as a volunteer assistant coach and became the head coach in 1995. He made his name at CU and led his team in winning multiple titles. In 2023, his tenure ended with the University of Colorado.

Mark Wetmore Records

Mark Wetmore saw significant success at the University of Colorado. He spent around 29 seasons, with 27 years as head coach of the cross country and track and field teams. During his tenure, the team won a total of eight national cross-country titles since 2000. He also led his team to individual championships as well, guiding athletes like Adam Goucher, Jorge Torres, Dathan Ritzenhein, Kara Grgas-Wheeler, and Dani Jones to NCAA individual titles. Under the coaching of Mark, CU athletes have earned a total of 140 All-American honors in cross country.

Mark Wetmore during his time at the University of Colorado guided CU to 23 Big-12 Cross Country Team Titles and 16 individual Big-12 Cross Country Titles.
