India’s Discus thrower Vikas Gowda has qualified for the final of the World Athletics Championships at the Luzhniki Stadium, Russia, on Monday.
The 30-year-old threw 63.64 metres in his first attempt – his best effort of the day. In the next two attempts Gowda threw at 62.59m and 62.67m respectively.
His first attempt, 63.64m, was good enough for his qualification for the final. The Commonwealth Games silver medalist and Olympic finalist, finished fourth in his group while he finished seventh overall.
Robert Harting of Germany recorded the longest throw (66.62m). The 12 finalists will compete for the medals on Tuesday.
