The 800-meter sprinter Nia Akins qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics by winning gold at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, clocking a personal best of 1:57.36. She competed in the 800 m competition at the 2023 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where she defeated Raevyn Rogers to win the final.

Akins was born on July 7, 1998, went to the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), and graduated in nursing in 2020. After which, she turned professional. During her college days, at the Boston Invitational, she clocked 2:00.71, the second-best in NCAA history. She was also the silver medal winner at the 2019 NACAC U23 Championships.

In August 2023, she was chosen to compete in the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest. In the final, she set her then-personal best, finishing sixth in 1:57.73. In August 2023, she also made her Diamond League debut in Zurich, where she placed fourth in the 800 meters.
