PARIS (AFP) –
World 100m champion and Olympic silver medallist Yohan Blake has been lined up to run in the Diamond League meeting in Shanghai in May, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) said on Thursday.
“Returning to China will bring good memories for me. It was in China that I won my first major international medal as a junior athlete at the 2006 IAAF World Junior Championships,” Blake was quoted as saying on iaaf.org.
“Competing in the Samsung Diamond League in Shanghai will afford me the opportunity to once again experience the truly magnificent hospitality of the Chinese people. I am looking forward to returning and competing well at the 200m distance.”
Blake, 23, announced earlier this week that he will compete in the opening Diamond League meeting in Doha on May 10. The Shanghai event comes eight days later.
The Jamaican sprinter, second behind Usain Bolt in the 100m and 200m at the London Olympics last year, has a 200m personal best of 19.26sec.
