The New York Yankees have been red-hot this season, but they have not been at full strength. They are missing a starting infielder, the reigning AL Cy Young winner, quite a few relievers, and an outfielder, among others. As they continue to win games (they're on a seven-game winning streak), they are also looking to get healthier.
Some of those injured players are on track to return soon and have begun rehab assignments. This means it's only a matter of time before they see the MLB level again.
Yankees closing in on returns after rehab assignments
3) Oswald Peraza
There may not be a place at the major-league level for Oswald Peraza once he does recover from his shoulder injury, but he has been progressing towards full health.
After going down in the spring, he's been working to get back and try to cement himself as a big leaguer. Nevertheless, he has been playing shortstop for the Scranton Wilks-Barre Railriders and if he can continue to heal and play well, he'll likely be a consideration for Aaron Boone at the MLB level.
2) Tommy Kahnle
Tommy Kahnle hasn't thrown a pitch for the Yankees in 2024, but he's nearing a return. The reliever has struggled with injuries over the last couple of years, but he appears to be rounding the bend.
That's good news for a bullpen that has largely been without big names and is being stretched thin with the lack of depth in the starting rotation. Kahnle threw a scoreless inning in relief with two strikeouts for the AA Somerset Patriots in his last outing.
1) DJ LeMahieu
DJ LeMahieu was injured in spring training and wasn't supposed to be out for a long time. Complications arose the first time he tried to embark on a rehab assignment, and he had to shut it down again for a while.
He has started up again with the Patriots and is nearing a return. After Oswaldo Cabrera's hot start flamed out, the return of LeMahieu to third base is key to sustaining the New York Yankees' hot start.
