Every year the best players are selected through a combination of fan, manager, and player voting through specific criteria. Following this selection several all-stars participate in a professional game called MLB All-Star Game. In this game, the American League and the National League compete against each other.

On July 6, 1933, the inaugural All-Star Game was held at Comiskey Park in Chicago during the 1933 World's Fair. This year, the 94th edition of the celebrated event will be played on July 16 at the Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas hosted by the Texas Rangers.

Do players get paid to play in MLB All-Star Game?

No, there is no additional payment or salary from the MLB that is given to the selected MLB all-stars players. There is only a prize pool for the winning team of 32 players worth $640,000, so each player of the winning team gets $20,000-$25,000.

However, In the upcoming 2024 MLB All-Star Game, a few players have included bonuses in their contracts for making the All-Star team. Among them, the Minnesota Twins' shortstop Carlos Correa stands out with the largest bonus of an additional $100,000 for making the All-Star Team. Following closely behind, players like Bryce Harper, Matt Strahm, Trea Turner, Bryan Reynolds, and Tyler Glasnow are set to receive a $50,000 bonus as per their contract agreements with their respective teams.

In addition to these financial incentives, each All-Star player also receives six tickets to the game for friends and family, first-class airfare for themselves and two guests, hotel accommodations, meal allowances, a $1,000 cash stipend, and a gift from either the American or National League.

How are All-Star players selected?

A detailed selection procedure is used in choosing the MLB All-Star players which takes into consideration various levels of the voting process. This process starts with fans voting for a full complement of players at each position where they choose their first-place winners (including three outfielders) in every division in the same position.

Starting positions are given to those who receive the highest number of votes from fans per entire league while they also happen to be the top vote-getters who do not enter the second stage.
