Emmet Sheehan, a rookie right-hander, showed off some impressive power stuff as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Francisco Giants 7-2 on Thursday night at the Dodger Stadium. He showed his prowess by striking out nine batters in 4 2/3 hitless innings.
Talking to the press after the match, Emmet Sheehan discussed his performance and what worked for him in the game.
"I build confidence with every start but for sure, the last two have been great and that's helped me a lot, especially going into this one." Emmet Sheehan on his presence on the mound and what was working for him tonight. - SportsNet LA wrote on X (formerly Twitter.)
Despite having little major league experience, Sheehan possesses the finest pure stuff, which is difficult to debate. Because of this, the Dodgers felt confident calling him up directly from Double-A this year.
On Thursday, Sheehan had six swings and misses on the slider and four on the changeup while both pitches were functioning. Sheehan struck out 18 times in all, which is a skill the Dodgers will covet in October.
