Fernando Valenzuela was born on November 1, 1960 in Etchohuaquila, Sonmora, Mexico. He made his MLB debut for the Dodgers on September 15, 1980. He has become a one time World Series Champion with the team in 1981. Moreover, he was also a good hitter apart from being a pitcher. He was used to the pinch-hitting style. He won the NL Cy Young Award and the NL Rookie of the Year Award in 1981. He is also a 6-time All-Star from 1981-1986. He got the nickname “El Toro” for his brilliant debut and set up “Fernandomania” by attracting a large section of the Mexican community to baseball.
Fernando Valenzuela posted a win-loss record of 173-153, with an ERA of 3.54, 2074 strikeouts, pitched in 2930.0 innings and had a WHIP of 1.32 throughout his career.
