Fernando Valenzuela Anguamea is a former Mexican- American pitcher in baseball. He has played for teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, California Angels (Los Angeles Angels), Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals.

Fernando Valenzuela was born on November 1, 1960 in Etchohuaquila, Sonmora, Mexico. He made his MLB debut for the Dodgers on September 15, 1980. He has become a one time World Series Champion with the team in 1981. Moreover, he was also a good hitter apart from being a pitcher. He was used to the pinch-hitting style. He won the NL Cy Young Award and the NL Rookie of the Year Award in 1981. He is also a 6-time All-Star from 1981-1986. He got the nickname “El Toro” for his brilliant debut and set up “Fernandomania” by attracting a large section of the Mexican community to baseball.

Fernando Valenzuela posted a win-loss record of 173-153, with an ERA of 3.54, 2074 strikeouts, pitched in 2930.0 innings and had a WHIP of 1.32 throughout his career. He retired after the 1997 MLB season. He returned as a Spanish language broadcaster for the KLos Angeles Dodgers in 2003. He was inducted into the Mexican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
