Josue Espada, better known as Joe Espada is a newcomer manager in Major League Baseball (MLB). A former baseball player himself, his journey started at University of Mobile, where he played college baseball for the Mobile Rams. Although he was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in 1995, he career was limited to only the minor leagues for the Oakland Athletics, Florida Marlins, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
After Espada retired from playing, he focused on coaching different MLB teams and started with the Florida Marlins/Miami Marlins in 2010 as their minor league infield coordinator and third base coach. Moving on, he served as the infield coach and third base coach of the New York Yankees from 2015 until 2017. Espada then began his long association with the Houston Astros as he became the bench coach of the team in 2018 and served as the same till 2023, which also led him to win the World Series with his team in 2022. He became a first time manager of the Houston Astros in 2024. Notably, he is one of the six Latin-American managers in the league in present times.

Joe Espada is the son of Loly Espada and Miriam Espada. Loly Espada used to work as a manager at a clothing store. However, he had to undergo a hip replacement surgery at the age of 42 years and was unable to work anymore, leading his wife to take up responsibilities for the family. Moreover, he used to be a big fan of the New York Yankees, New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves while also taking Joe to countless baseball practices.
Miriam Espada worked as an executive at Baxter International, a healthcare company. She was intially not a fan of baseball and instead wanted her son to become a lawyer or doctor. However, once he started playing baseball, she started supporting him and was very proud to learn that her son had become the new manager of the Houston Astros in 2023. The family later relocated to Dallas, Texas, to get better medical facilities for Loly Espada. Remarkably, both Loly Espada and Miriam Espada were present during Opening Day 2024 to see their son’s first game as the Houston Astros’ new team manager.

Joe Espada is married to Pamela Dearth-Espada. Notably, she is also the sister of Lisa Hyde, the wife of Brandon Hyde, who is the manager of the Baltimore Orioles. Joe Espada first met Pamela Dearth-Espada while he used to live at Brandon Hyde’s house in Florida and tied the knot with her in 2009.
Pamela Dearth-Espada used to work as a pharmacist. However, she left her job and became a home maker once their children were born while her husband continued his career in MLB.
