Ian Hamilton is the newest member of the New York Yankees organization. The unproven young arm will now have the chance he was craving to make a name for himself on the big league stage.

Hamilton is originally from New Hampshire, but grew up in Washington. Hamilton was a talented athlete from a young age and played at Skyview High School in Vancouver, Washington, as well as at Washington State University.

Hamilton also played in the Cape Cod Baseball League. In 2015, he was voted the most valuable player in the All-Star game following a spectacular season on the mound for the Wareham Gatemen.

A year later, in 2016, Hamilton was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 11th round. He got his start in 2018, appearing in 10 games out of the bullpen for the White Sox. Hamilton finished the 2018 season with an ERA of 4.50 across eight innings.

"Did you see Ian Hamilton’s first career strikeout? Check out the movement and then the reaction from the Tigers Victor Reyes," Chicago sportscaster Chuck Garfien tweeted.

In 2021, he was claimed off of waivers by the Minnesota Twins. He only appeared in one game for the Twins in 2022, in which he pitched 2.2 innings and finished with a season ERA of 6.75. As of the end of last season, he has nine career strikeouts to his name.

In February 2023, Ian Hamilton signed a minor league deal with the New York Yankees. Although the contract is a minor league deal, it is likely that he will report to spring training later this month at the Yankees facility in Tampa, Florida.

Although he is unlikely to make the Opening Day cut, he is sure to be a valuable puzzle piece for the Yankees going forward. Hamilton will be 28 in June, and posted a 1.28 ERA with a strikeout rate of 32.1% last season in Triple-A for the St. Paul’s Saints.

"What are your thoughts on RHP Ian Hamilton?" Fireside Yankees tweeted.

Ian Hamilton is just looking for a breakthrough

Ian Hamilton may get the chance to play the most games of his career this season. With the apparent injury proneness of other New York Yankees’ relievers like Michael King and Chad Greene, expect Hamilton to have opportunities to come into the fold later in the year.

Moreover, Hamilton will have a chance at winning a World Series with the Yankees, something he never could have hoped for with his previous teams.
