With less than a month to go in the regular season, the race for the National League Cy Young Award continues to heat up. The prestigious award is presented to a player who is voted as the top pitcher in their league. When it comes to the NL, there are some familiar faces vying for the award; however, there is one noticeable player who has entered the top four in odds.
As per FanDuel, the top four pitchers with the best odds of winning the NL Cy Young Award maybe not be too surprising. Atlanta Braves veteran Chris Sale has been tremendous all year after making to move to the National League. He is the current betting favorite to win the award. Sale currently sits at -2,400 to walk away with the accolade.
While it appears that the 2024 NL Cy Young is Chris Sale's to lose, the other three pitchers with the best odds include Zack Wheeler (+1000), Logan Webb (+20000), and Padres ace Dylan Cease (+20000).
Cease and Webb may be out of the running, however, Zack Wheeler could make things interesting. The veteran pitcher has been a force for the Philadelphia Phillies this year, posting a 13-6 record with 183 stikeouts and a 2.63 ERA. Wheeler is projected to face a lowly Miami Marlins squad on Friday, which could see those numbers improve.
Even though Chris Sale appears to be running away with the NL Cy Young Award, if he were to struggle in his remaining starts, it could open the door for Wheeler to make a late-season push.
Chris Sale has the chance to secure the first Cy Young Award of his potential Hall of Fame career
Chris Sale's bounceback this year with the Atlanta Braves has been one of the most impressive storylines in the MLB. The 35-year-old was traded to Atlanta this offseason from the Boston Red Sox in a relatively quiet deal that took infielder Vaughn Grissom to Beantown.
An eight-time All-Star, it appeared that age and injuries had taken their toll on Sale. However, to the surprise of nearly everyone, Sale has not only been strong but arguably the best pitcher in the MLB, posting a 16-3 record with 206 strikeouts and a 2.46 ERA.
As a result, he is on the cusp of securing the first Cy Young Award of his career. Given the fact that Sale has been one of the top pitchers of his generation, it may be a surprise that he lacks the accolades of some of his peers. However, after 1941.1 innings in the majors, Sale may finally secure the elusvie Cy Young.
