The Los Angeles Dodgers' season opener saw them face the Arizona Diamondbacks in front of more than 52,000 excited fans. Despite a convincing Opening Day victory for the home team, baseball wasn't the main talking point after the game.

On this occasion, the man saw an opportunity to etch his name in Dodgers history and decided to jump the fence, jog to centerfield and get on one knee. That's when things went very wrong. Stadium security did not put up with any of his antics. The man soon found himself on the receiving end of a tackle an NFL linebacker would have been proud of.

MLB fans turned to Twitter to react to the failed proposal attempt, which backfired horribly.

Some fans believe that while the man was wrong to be on the field, the response from the security guard was unnecessary.

Other fans were more concerned with where the ring ended up.

One fan was curious to know whether she said "yes."

Getting on one knee and proposing is intimidating in itself. Doing it in a public venue with thousands of spectators seems terrifying. Let's hope this guy gets a "yes" from his partner after all the pain and suffering he went through.

Led by Freddie Freeman, Will Smith and James Outman, the Los Angeles Dodgers went on to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-2. Baseball is not usually a contact sport, but fans in the outfield witnessed some hard-hitting action on this occasion.
