The MLB Trade Deadline is coming soon, and the New York Yankees are likely to be very active. They have slipped lately after a brilliant start, with their infield and pitching showing cracks. It is likely that they make more than a few moves to try and fix that and fend off the Baltimore Orioles.
If they do make changes, they might have to get creative. The farm system isn't incredibly deep and they have some struggling veterans who the team might cut ties with. Here are a few players who might not be in New York anymore after next month.
Who the Yankees might trade this Trade Deadline
3) Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres has battled injury, bad performance and more this season. It is a nightmare contract year for the former All-Star. If there's a veteran on the team who might be traded, it's Torres. With Alex Verdugo and Juan Soto pending free agents as well, Torres is likely third on their list of re-signs.
If the Yankees did move Torres, it would likely be as part of a package and would presumably bring in another infielder to offset the loss. Perhaps a package including Jonathan India or Zack Gelof makes sense.
2) Chase Hampton
The Yankees have depleted their farm system pitching with trades for Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo, so it's unlikely that they'd ship off their top pitching prospect and MLB's number 72 prospect. However, this becomes much more likely if they try and swing a deal for Mason Miller.
The Oakland Athletics would likely need a huge haul to even consider trading a player under control through 2029. The Yankees love both Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones (both ranked higher than Hampton), so the centerpiece would likely be Hampton.
1) Everson Pereira
Everson Pereira had a tough go at the MLB level last season. He came up alongside Austin Wells and Jasson Dominguez, both of whom have shown that they can play at the MLB level.
Pereira remains a top-five Yankees prospect and former top-100 prospect in baseball, so he has value. He'll likely be included in a trade for someone the Yankees like. They have holes in the infield and bullpen, so Pereira figures to find a new home following the Trade Deadline.
