Nestor Cortés Jr. is a Cuban-American professional Major League Baseball player. He currently plays the position of a pitcher for the New York Yankees. He is also known by his nicknames ‘Nasty Nestor’ and ‘the Hialeah Kid’. He was born in Surgidero de Batabanó, Cuba but moved to the USA when he was only seven months old.

The pitcher was chosen by the New York Yankees in the 2013 MLB draft. He was picked in the 36th round as the 1094th overall selection. He made his professional debut under the Yankees' organization in 2013, showcasing his skills in the Gulf Coast League as a Rookie. However, he didn't manage to make his Major League debut with the Yankees. Cortés was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles after being selected in the 2017 Rule 5 draft from the Yankees organization. He made his Major League debut with the Orioles in 2018. Cortés played phenomenally in the 2022 season and made it to the All-Star team in the same year.

He is the only child of the couple. His father was arrested in 1992 when he tried unsuccessfully defect from Cuba. However, the unfortunate incident led him to meet his wife. When Nestor was only seven months old the family moved to the USA when Nestor Sr. won the visa lottery.

Cortés got inspired to play baseball when his father took him to watch the Florida/ Miami Marlins play at the Pro Player Stadium in Miami Gardens. He used to attend the Hialeah High School in Hialeah, Florida. He committed to play at the Florida International University's FIU Panthers.

The pitcher was selected in the 2013 MLB draft by the Yankees. He was selected in the 36th round and was the 1094th overall pick. The contract he signed with the team was worth $85,000. He made his professional debut in the same year and played in the Gulf Coast League under the organization. He played for teams like the Pulaski Yankees, Charleston RiverDogs, and Tampa Yankees. In 2017 he was drafted by the the Baltimore Orioles from the Yankees Organization under the 2017 Rule 5 draft. He made his Major Leagues debut with them in 2018.
