The MLB regular season is ongoing, with division contenders battling for the top spot and some teams pushing for Wild Card spots. In the NL West, the Los Angeles Dodgers are currently in the lead.
However, two other teams—the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres—are top contenders for the division lead and are closing in on the Blue Crew. Both teams have a 63-53 record, a .555 winning percentage, and are 3.5 games behind LA.
Recently, the MLB posted an update about the Padres and the D-backs climbing the NL West rankings. The post featured a picture of Shohei Ohtani alongside the standings for the three teams, with the caption:
“The Padres and Dbacks are making up ground in the NL West.”
However, the post was shortly deleted and republished with a different caption:
“Will the Dodgers be crowned NL West champs for the 11th time in 12 seasons? 👀”
Several fans reacted when @dugoutreport shared the update on Instagram.
"The $1 Billion underdog story," a fan said.
“They’re not even hiding it anymore 🤭,” another fan said.
“I’m a dodgers fan, and I think the fact they republished the post to be more pro-dodgers is ridiculous,” another fan wrote.
Many other fan reactions continued with some criticizing MLB.
“Good. They want more views and ratings and that's what the Dodgers bring. Money talks baby,” a comment reads.
“MLB is biased towards the dodgers? Wow this is breaking news another comment reads.
“While I do love baseball. I hate MLB as an organization. This is just one very small example why,” someone wrote.
The San Francisco Giants, currently fourth in the NL West, are also gaining ground. They have a 61-59 record with a .508 winning percentage and are nine games behind the division lead.
Dodgers keep their hot streak going with a 6-5 win, while the Padres and D-backs are also coming off their own win streaks
LA secured a 6-5 victory in their series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates, completing their sweep. They are currently 69-49 with a .585 winning percentage.
The San Diego Padres were on a seven-game winning streak before their recent 7-6 loss to the Miami Marlins. The Arizona Diamondbacks are also performing well, winning their last three games, including two blowout victories with scores of 11-1 and 12-5.
With all the contenders having solid performances, it will be interesting to see who will claim the division crown and advance to the postseason.
