The New York Yankees' biggest move during the trade deadline week is undoubtedly Jazz Chisholm Jr. The former Miami Marlins utility player joined the New York club last month and was immediately put in the main roaster.
He’s been in the lineup ever since, playing six games so far. He made some critical plays in the recent Yankees vs. Phillies series, making him one of the new favorites of Bleacher Creatures.
In a recent interview on the New York Post Sports YouTube channel, the show host, Dexter Henry, asked Hector Beauchamp of Latino Sports about Chisholm Jr.'s impact on the clubhouse.
“I think Chisholm is a special player, and if he's surrounded around the right leadership when it comes to players when it comes to coaching staff, I think you can get the best version of him during the season,” Beauchamp told Henry. [Timestamp — 5:00]
Beauchamp also emphasized Chisholm Jr.'s strong mentality during clutch moments. Not only does he deliver on RISP (Runners In Scoring Position) situations, he does it better than his usual at-bats.
"Jazz Chisholm with runners in scoring position was sitting 330 [batting average] that's 80 points higher than his actual batting average,” he said.
“To me, that shows me that when there's runners in scoring position when the pressure is there he locks in and he comes through in big spots. And he's been coming through the energy has been fun it's been fun to watch what he's been doing with the Yankees,” he added.
As the Yankees secured their first win of August, Chisholm Jr. went 1-for-3 without any runs or RBI contributions on Saturday. The series-deciding finale will be played on Sunday, with eyes on the Bahamas native if he can lead his team during those tough situations.
New York podcaster echoed praise for Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the Yankees' turnaround
Since joining the Yankees, Chisholm Jr. is 5-1 in six games, with a four-homer in a game against the Phillies on his record. In a recent interview on New York Post Sports, NBA podcaster and New York Knicks fan Anthony Donahue shared his insight on Chisholm Jr.’s impact on the Yankees.
“The Yankees have been amazing last week, especially since bringing in Jazz [Chisholm Jr.]. He’s been awesome. He’s giving the Yankees a lot of Jazz,” Donahue said. “The Yankees need that. They need some of that personality. … You need some personality, you need some flavor, some Jazz.”
Chisholm Jr. has a stat line of .308/.357/.769 and an OPS of 1.126 for the Yankees. Plus, he’s been covering third base for them, and given Gleyber Torres’ defensive difficulties in second base, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Yankees test him there for a few games.
