Andrew McCutchen full of joy this Thanksgiving for his kids
Pittsburgh Pirates star Andrew McCutchen and his kids joined over 180 volunteers in Yinzgiving event to package and deliver more than 2,000 Thanksgiving meals in Pittsburgh. The 38-year-old outfielder brought his wife and four kids to the event.
According to TribLiv, the following items were prepared for the Thanksgiving meal:
- Over 700 pounds of turkey
- Over 650 pounds of real mashed potatoes
- 1,400 freshly baked rolls from Mediterra Bakehouse
- Homemade gravy
- All the traditional sides
- Pumpkin pie
“If you play the game long enough, you have a lot of eyes on you, lot of opportunities to do stuff outside of sport,” McCutchen said. “I think it’s very important as a player to be able to do those things. … it’s real easy to say no, but it makes a big difference if you’re able to say yes.”
Following the event, McCutchen also posted glimpses from the event, while being thankful that he and his family could participate in a noble cause.
"Watching my kids hand out meals on Thanksgiving Day and experience the joy of giving back was truly special," the slugger wrote in the caption.
This was the fifth annual Yinzgiving meal distribution event. For those needing a Thanksgiving meal during the day, Andrew McCutchen had their backs.
