Pete Alonso had a bad day, with him facing a first-round exit on Monday's MLB Home Run Derby after he could only muster 12 home runs, rendering him to occupy the seventh spot in the eight-slugger field. However, he made a day for one fan, granting his wish to sign a Topps card for him.

While Alonso was attending media and fan interactions, one fan requested that he sign a Topps trading card with a Polar Bear on it. Pete, whose Instagram username is @polarpete20, is often associated with the animal, often with love.

Firstly, Alonso was amused after looking at the card and asked the fan:

"Are you gonna get $28,000 for it," Alonso asked.
"I think this one will go for $30K," the fan replied.

Pete Alonso's Polar Bear Topps Card is available on many trading websites, including eBay.

Last offseason, many expected the Mets to make an extension offer to Pete Alonso before he started his contract year. However, nothing materialized, as David Stearns takes a wait-and-watch approach with Alonso's contract situation.

During the media interaction on Monday, Alonso was asked about his contract situation with the club. The first baseman said he would like to remain with the franchise but understands that he can be dealt away before the trade deadline.

"I'm super happy to be a Met, super proud to be a Met," Alonso said Monday at Globe Life Field. "And, again, it's just been awesome. I'd love to stay, and I don't want to get traded. I love it. It's home." [via ESPN].
"Right now there's a lot that could happen [before the trade deadline] and whatever the front office and ownership decides to do, that's their prerogative. But, for me, my job is to do whatever I can to help win ball games every single day," he added.

Following a dismal start to the season, speculations became rife for the Mets to deal away Pete Alonso and go for a rebuild. However, in the past month or so, the Mets have been buzzing, going 25-11 and reinstating themselves in the last wild card spot of the National League.

Now this has become a dilemma for the Mets as to whether to trade away their star first baseman or trade for additions to make a deep run this postseason. It might depend on how the Mets fare in the coming games until July 30.
