Randy Arozarena has been on fire at the plate in the World Baseball Classic. The Cuban outfielder, who has lived in Mexico for nearly a decade, is putting Team Mexico on the map.
From his on-field antics to what he's doing at the plate, all eyes are on Arozarena. In a must-win game for Team Mexico against Team Canada, Arozarena hit a bases-clearing double to put his team up four.
The double gave Team Mexico some much-needed breathing room. Team Canada had nothing left in the tank, scoring only three runs in the game. Mexico went on to beat Canada by a score of 10-3.
Team Mexico moved to 3-1 in pool play mainly from the bat of Arozarena and their excellent pitching. They now await their quarterfinals matchup in Miami.
"This was just... WOW! I need Randy to be a Dodger!" one fan tweeted.
"Stop pitching to this guy," another fan pleaded.
Fans are trying to figure out why teams are still pitching to Randy Arozarena. The baseball looks like a beachball to him at the plate right now at the World Baseball Classic.
Arozarena has always been clutch in the biggest games. During his MLB postseason career, he's hitting .333/.417/.705 with 17 home runs. The bright lights don't affect him.
Can Randy Arozarena carry Team Mexico through the quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic?
Team Mexico have looked great behind Randy Arozarena. They are 3-1 in the World Baseball Classic with their recent win over Team Canada. Their most impressive win came against Team USA as they beat them 11-5 on Sunday.
In the four games Team Mexico has played, Arozarena is 7-14 with six extra-base hits and nine RBIs. He broke Team Mexico's record for most RBIs in the World Baseball Classic.
The team has played perfect baseball outside of their extra-innings loss to Team Colombia in the opener. If not for that loss, they'd be tied with Samurai Japan and Team Venezuela as the only undefeated teams left in the tournament.
Don't sleep on Team Mexico in this tournament. They're playing with nothing but passion, and sometimes, passion is just too hard to beat. Don't be surprised if this team keeps up the momentum and makes a serious run in the quarterfinals. This could be the year where they finally win their first-ever WBC title.
