On Friday, MLB analysts Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker discussed Bo Bichette's latest injury with Toronto Blue Jays skipper John Schneider. Enduring a tough campaign, the infielder suffered a broken finger, effectively ending his season.
Earlier, Bichette was out of action for a large chunk of the year with a strain to his right calf. Having initially struggled for consistency and then with fitness, Bo and the Blue Jays just can't seem to catch a break.
On Friday's edition of Blair and Barker, Schneider talked about how he backs Bo to make a strong return in the 2025 season.
"He was just excited to be back playing," Schneider said. "It's unfortunate for sure. He was just excited to be back around the guys. I think he will handle it like he handles everything else. He's going to be motivated, he's going to be right to work as soon as he can get to work." [29:08]
"You look at this year, for him, for us, I think in 2025, Baseball God should have his (Bo Bichette's) back. I think he's going to attack it, he's going to crush his off season like he normally does, and he's going to be ready to roll." [29:40]
Bo Bichette's time at Toronto may be coming to an end
Two-time All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette's nightmare season came to an end with a broken finger in his right hand during a hit by pitch in practice. This comes right as he made his long-anticipated return from a lengthy absence due to a calf injury he sustained back in July.
For the time that he was fit to play, 81 games, Bo struggled for output at the plate, batting .225, with four home runs and 31 RBIs, a considerable fall from his lofty standards.
There have been rumors of a potential trade for Bichette near the end of the season, and while negotiating a potential trade when a player has had his worst season in terms of performance and fitness does not put the Blue Jays in a good position, they may decide to salvage whatever value they can before Bichette enters free agency after the 2025 season.
