The MLB universe has been fully engaged in the ongoing Jorge Lopez and New York Mets situation. The former All-Star found himself at the forefront of the latest knock to the Mets season as the veteran reliever tossed his glove into the crowd after being ejected from Wednesday's game with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

After allowing a home run to Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, Jorge Lopez found himself in an argument with third base umpire Ramon De Jesus, leading to his ejection.
At the end of the game, there were some comments from the reliever that had allegedly been mistranslated, but the New York Mets opted to DFA Lopez.
"In a statement before beginning his daily press conference today, Carlos Mendoza addressed the Jorge López situation by saying: "We have standards here. ... Behaviors like that, we weren't going to tolerate that." Mendoza declined to discuss details of why the Mets DFA'd López." - @AnthonyDiComo
Before the New York Mets daily press conference, manager Carlos Mendoza shared a statement on the Lopez situation:
"We have standards here," Mendoza told reporters. "Behaviors like that, we weren't going to tolerate," he continued but didm't dive into the reasons behind the team's decision to DFA Lopez.
Although neither Carlos Mendoza nor the New York Mets have dove into the details behind Jorge Lopez's designation, it's clear that it was a situation that could not be salvaged. The veteran reliever will likely find plenty of interest from contending teams across the league.
Jorge Lopez's designation for assignment comes during a difficult stretch for the Mets
Things have gone from bad to worse for the New York Mets. Not only is the team dealing with the fallout from the Jorge Lopez situation, but a number of their top players are currently dealing with injuries.
On Wednesday, the New York Mets placed superstar close Edwin Diaz on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder impingement, depleting the bullpen of yet another quality arm. With Diaz and Lopez out of the bullpen, manager Carlos Mendoza will test the depth of his team's pitching staff.
The team is also crossing their fingers regarding the health of star first baseman Pete Alonso. The home run kingpin is dealing with a hand injury after being struck with a pitch on Wednesday. Alonso avoided any fractures, but having him out of the lineup only hurts the Mets heading into a matchup with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
