Jordan Montgomery got the Thursday start for the Arizona Diamondbacks as they took on the Minnesota Twins for some afternoon baseball. Unfortunately, it would be a start that he will not want to remember.

The lefty lasted just 2.2 innings before being pulled. He gave up eight runs, four being earned, on nine hits while striking out just one batter. After being pulled, he took out his frustrations in the dugout.

Montgomery took a couple of shots at the pitchcom device in a fit of rage. He has taken a bit of a step back from being the arm that dominated the 2023 postseason.

While it was a rough outing, his defense did not help him, either. Arizona committed two defensive errors with the lefty on the mound leading to his poor start that fans ate up.

"Best pitch he threw all day" - one fan posted.
"The falloff needs to be studied" - posted another.
"Dang, I think all of those were strikes.." - posted another.

Opposing fans took pleasure in trolling the big lefty with some asking for his downfall to be studied. His late signing likely has something to do with his first-half struggles.

"Late signings ruin seasons" - said another fan.
"His fault. Should’ve signed early instead of being greedy" - said another.
"It's almost like Spring Training is a good thing" - said another.

Montgomery missed all of Spring Training as he signed his one-year, $25 million deal with Arizona in late March. He and Blake Snell were among the last pitchers to come off the board in free agency and have not looked like themselves this year.

The Jordan Montgomery signing has not panned out for the Diamondbacks

For the Diamondbacks, they thought they were getting somebody who would pair nicely alongside pitchers like Zac Gallen and Brandon Pfaadt, but he has not. He has turned into a liability out there.

During his 2.2 innings of work, Jordan Montgomery threw an astounding 84 pitches. He was then met with a serenade of boos from his own fanbase, which is not the first time that has happened.

The fanbase has lost all hope that Montgomery can turn it around this year. He has lost much of what made him dominant last season, which is unfortunate. Arizona could have used another dependable starter while playing in the highly competitive National League West division.
