Kansas City Royals infielder Bobby Witt Jr. made history on Tuesday night with his 30th stolen base of the season. That madr him the first shortstop to record multiple 30-30 seasons in the majors.
After hitting a grand slam in the series opener against the Detroit Tigers on Monday to mark 31 home runs this season, the 24-year-old was on the cusp of making history. As he swiped second base in the first inning on Tuesday, Witt became the first shortstop to record two 30-30 seasons in the MLB.

Bobby Witt Jr. was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 2019 MLB Draft with the second overall pick and went on to make his major league debut with them in 2022.
After an impressive first season in the majors, the shortstop took his game to the next level in 2023, recording his first 30-30 season and finishing as the MLB triples leader.
Witt has carried that form into this season, making the All-Star team for the first time while helping the Royals to a Wild Card spot in the AL.
After a disappointing season in 2023 with 106 losses, the Kansas City Royals have turned things around this year with a 82-69 record as they entered their series against the Detroit Tigers.
On Tuesday, they went 1-0 down early in the first inning but soon leveled the scores, thanks to some strong baserunning from Witt. A Michael Massey single in the third inning allowed the shortstop to reach home base and level the scores on the night.
With his historic 30-30 season for the second time, he also becomes the first played to achieve the feat in the first three years in the majors.

In what was a hard-fought game between two tight defensive teams, the Tigers went 3-1 up in extra innings to secure the series and set up a chance to sweep the Kansas City Royals.
With the scores tied at 1-1 for most of the game, RBI singles from Parker Meadows and Rikey Green put the Tigers ahead. Jason Foley then stepped to the mound in the bottom of the tenth and secured the save.
