Boston Red Sox pitcher James Paxton made his Spring Training debut on Friday. It didn't go as well as he had planned, as he had to exit the game early with a hamstring issue. The lefty nearly made it two innings before leaving with two outs in the second.

He was only scheduled to go two innings on Friday, so manager Alex Cora wasted no time taking him out. It was an unfortunate injury, as Paxton was looking like his old self in his debut.

Paxton isn't new to injuries. Last season, he suffered a Grade 2 lat tear during a minor-league rehab start that ended his season. He's only made six MLB starts since 2020.

This isn't the news Boston Red Sox fans wanted to see. They've been through enough injuries already, as they'll be without Trevor Story for the foreseeable future.

"Honestly feel bad for him. Red Sox are screwed" one fan tweeted.

It was a tough break for somebody working hard to get back on the mound this year. Hopefully, this is just minor, and he'll be back and throwing again in a few days.

We'll have to wait on a more thorough update from the Red Sox. However, hamstring injuries can be tricky and tough to deal with.

Boston Red Sox have been through too much this season and it's only Spring Training

It hasn't been a good past couple of months for the Boston Red Sox. It all started in the winter when Xander Bogaerts signed with the San Diego Padres. This would move Story to his natural position at shortstop, but Story had to have shoulder surgery in January. There's no timetable for his return, and some believe he won't return this season at all.

Now they have to shift Enrique Hernandez to shortstop. While he's a utility player, he has the most experience in the outfield. He has some experience at shortstop but doesn't have many games under his belt at the position. It will be interesting to see how he handles the everyday shortstop role for the bulk of the season.

Boston may have a rough season this year. The Red Sox don't have the roster to compete in the division, and players cannot stay healthy. It wouldn't be surprising if the Red Sox finished in the basement of the American League East again.
