The Boston Red Sox are off to a hot start. Their 9-5 victory against the Baltimore Orioles moved them to 2-1 for the young season. They could easily be undefeated but ran out of gas in their comeback attempt on Opening Day, losing 10-9.
Five different Red Sox hitters had multiple hits in Sunday's game. Adam Duvall, who hit the walk-off on Saturday, went 3-5 with two RBIs. Kiké Hernández contributed to the run total with a home run in the second inning.
Tanner Houck led the way for Boston on the mound. He went five innings, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out five. He'll want to do better in his next appearance, as he gave up two home runs on Sunday.
The Red Sox have put up a combined 27 runs in their first three games. In each game, their offense has put-up nine runs across the board. This has to be encouraging for the fan base as we start the season.
"Series: WON. This offense is cooking something special," one fan tweeted.
"Very solid start to the season," another fan tweeted.
Boston Red Sox fans couldn't have imagined this start for their team. They weren't expecting much from the team heading into the season without their All-Star shortstop Xander Bogaerts.
This is exactly how Boston needed to come out, especially playing a divisional foe. If the team can keep presenting this type of offense, it may be a problem for the rest of the league.
The Boston Red Sox are ready to keep this ball rolling
The Boston Red Sox had zero expectations heading into the season. Not only did they lose Bogaerts in free agency to the San Diego Padres. They lost Trevor Story, who was set to take Bogaerts' spot at shortstop. Story underwent elbow surgery, and it's unclear when or if he will be able to return this season.
Maybe the low expectations were exactly what the team needed. They have been absolutely rolling so far this season.
If they want to have any hope this year, the pitching will have to catch up to their offense. Chris Sale and Corey Kluber will have to stay healthy and perform well to give Boston a legitimate shot this season.
While the season is young, the Red Sox may be one of the more fun teams to watch this season.
