The Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins swapped prospects on Sunday. Baseball insider Jeff Passan reported Vidal Brujan going to Chicago with Matt Mervis going to Miami. While the deal involves two prospects that haven’t generated a huge impact at the major league level yet, fans expressed their opinions on social media.

In particular, some were none too pleased at the news of a minor trade. They voiced their opinions regarding the major news they’d like to hear.

Let’s take a look at what fans said.

“Announce Roki (Sasaki) to the Dodgers,” one fan chimed in.
“Cool break (Pete) Alonso to the Mets now,” this fan weighed in.
“That’s not (Alex) Bregman to Boston,” another fan remarked.

In the meantime, others criticized the deal, pointing out the flaws in both players involved.

“Cubs traded for a career .189 hitter, that's the most Jed Hoyer trade if I've ever seen one,” a fan commented.
“Most have never heard of either,” another fan posted on social media.
“When was Mervis a top 100 prospect?” another fan commented.

With both Mervis and Brujan set to get fresh starts in new settings, the hope is they can get back on track and become significant contributors. It remains to be seen if the change of scenery will yield the desired results.

Cubs acquire Brujan to round out lineup, bench

In trading for Vidal Brujan, the Cubs get a utility man capable of playing multiple positions. At the moment, the Cubs appear to have an opening at third base. While top prospect Matt Shaw looks to have the inside track, Brujan could fill in there.

But that’s not everything Brujan can do. As a switch hitter, Brujan gives the Cubs options at various spots. Last season, he predominantly played at shortstop, logging 237 innings there, while playing second (198 innings) and third (75).

Brujan played all three outfield positions, logging 73 innings in center, 35 in right and 10 in left. Plus, he took the mound twice last season.

With that sort of versatility, Chicago gets a solid option to plug in holes following the major trades involving Kyle Tucker and Cole Bellinger. Fans should expect more moves coming as the team’s bench seems to lack established options.

Landing Brujan is a good step in the right direction for the Cubs. The .189 career hitter won’t be knocking the ball out of the ballpark. Still, a change of scenery could provide the 26-year-old Dominican native an opportunity to break out.
