Outfielder Mark Canha was just one of the plethora of players that the New York Mets dealt in the run-up to the August 1 trade deadline. Shipped to the Milwaukee Brewers on July 31, Canha has taken to his new playing environment like a fish to water.
In 43 games since making the move to Milwaukee, Canha is hitting .307/.385/.464 with 5 home runs and 30 RBIs. By comparison, he was hitting .245/.343/.381 with 6 home runs and 29 RBIs in 89 games with the Mets. Since his trade, Canha has virtually equated his offensive output in half as many games.

"Mark Canha grand slamma. (MLB x @DairyQueen)" - MLB
The Brewers are in a much better spot than the Mets are. With a record of 87-66, the team needs to record just one win during their three-game weekend set against the Miami Marlins to punch their ticket to the MLB postseason.
Speaking on a recent installment of Jomboy Media's Baseball Today Podcast, hosts Chris Rose and Trevor Plouffe discussed Canha's trade. The pair agreed that Canha's July 31 trade that minor leaguer Justin Jarvis to the New York Mets was one of the best trades of the year, saying:
"He is one of the best trade deadline pickups this year"
Mark Canha's old team, the New York Mets, are seen as the biggest dissapointment of the 2023 season. Despite boasting a payroll of around $360 million, the MLB's largest, the team now finds themselves with a record of 71-82, 27 games back of their divisional leader. In addition to Canha, several other Mets like Justin Verlander, Tommy Pham, and Max Scherzer were dealt on or before the August 1 MLB trade deadline.
Mark Canha is part of a red-hot nucleus of Brewers powersluggers
In addition to acquiring Mark Canha, the Brewers have been a very busy team over the past two months. In addition to acquiring first baseman Carlos Santana, former New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson has also come alive for the team.
Despite the strong performances out of Milwaukee, the Brewers are bound to face some stiff competition in the postseason, should they get there. While their pitching has been good, the Brewers are an offense-oriented team. If Canha, as wel as his teammates can continue on the late-season tear, then the Brewers will be a team that everybody will need to watch out for come October.
