Buck Showalter's candidacy for Los Angeles Angels job puzzles fans: "Classic Angels move"

The Los Angeles Angels are reportedly interested in looking at Buck Showalter for their recently vacated manager's position. After Phil Nevin's exit, the Angels have a hole at the top that they will need to fill for the 2024 season. There are a lot of questions surrounding their future, and the manager is one of them.

However, Showalter's name doesn't inspire confidence in baseball fans. Many of them are surprised that the Angels are even considering him at this point. Reports suggest that he is a genuine candidate, but that's a surprising fact for many MLB fans.

This is not something many fans want to see. They believe this could negatively impact the chances that Shohei Ohtani re-signs with the team as he enters free agency this winter.

The New York Mets, Showalter's last team, had a stunning fall from grace. In his first year, they won 101 games and made the playoffs. In the following season, they were barely out of last place with a shocking record of 75-87.

With the same overall roster plus a few good pitchers like Justin Verlander, this Mets team was supposed to be good but they were anything but. Many baseball fans believe that falls on the manager, and Buck Showalter left the job after that.

He also struggled at the tail end of his Baltimore Orioles career, which forced him into the booth. It was there he stayed until the Mets called, so it's safe to say that the Angels may want to reconsider this.

Their fans want to see Ohtani return and they don't want Mike Trout to leave. A bad season could force the latter, and a bad hire could force Ohtani to sign elsewhere. That would be disastrous for the team.

Showalter doesn't inspire confidence in many fans, and the Angels are a team that has been painfully inept. That's why many are not even surprised that they're considering a move like this. He hasn't been hired yet, and there may not have even been an interview as of now.
