Love or hate him, Trevor Bauer is in the news despite not pitching in the MLB since 2021. The former Cy Young Award winner has been a consistent force on social media, with posts of his highlights in the Mexican League and his personality off the field.
Bauer has not pitched in the MLB after sexual assault allegations were made against him, leading to his suspension and ultimate release from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite being cleared of any criminal wrongdoing, the former All-Star has been unable to secure another MLB contract.
Two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell inked a five-year, $182,000,000 deal with the Dodgers. Bauer shared a fan's image of Snell's signing on his Instagram story earlier this week, sparking reactions from fans across the league with some condemning the former ace.
"I wish he’d just give up… stick to YouTube and the Mexican league," another fan tweeted.
"Not even Kapernick is this desperate," one fan tweeted.
It remains to be seen if Bauer will sign another MLB contract, however, he has remained active in professional baseball. Last season, Bauer played for the Diablos Rojos del México and was dominant. Over 83.1 innings of work, he posted a 10-0 record with a 2.48 ERA and 120 strikeouts. While he proved that he has some life in his arm, some fans want him to stay out of the MLB.
"I genuinely believe that if he didn't go on social media everyday he might have actually got picked up," another fan tweeted.
"So unlikeable," one tweeted.
It will be interesting to see where Bauer winds up next. Following seasons in Japan and Mexico and a return to the MLB murky at best, Bauer's future landing spot is unpredictable at this point. That being said, he will likely keep his fans and followers posted about his next steps.
Trevor Bauer reportedly turned down Mexican Winter League contract offer
According to baseball insider channel Pelota Cubana USA, Bauer will not return to Mexico this winter. The former Cincinnati Reds ace was reportedly offered a $500,000 contract to pitch for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo in the Winter League.
It remains to be seen what Bauer's next steps will be. However, turning down a lucrative offer like the one reported above will spark some conversation. There is a chance that Bauer does not want to pitch in the Mexican Winter League to pursue an MLB contract, using his past season stats as a negotiation tool.
