"Can’t believe he’s still posing as a baseball player" - Fans troll Aaron Hicks as Angels outfielder turns closer in blowout loss vs. Twins

Aaron Hicks took on a different role for the Los Angeles Angels as he turned into a ninth innings closer in their game against the Minnesota Twins. The Halos suffered a blowout 16-5 loss, with most of the damage dealt in the first half of the game.

Aaron Hicks moved to LA in 2024 for a one-year contract with the Angels that amounted to a league minimum of $740,000. Before this, he had a brief stint with the Orioles when he was traded by the Yankees after seven seasons of below-par results. Towards the end of his Yanks career, Hicks had notched plenty of errors in the field with a batting average always around the Mendoza line.

During their game against the Twins, the Angels conceded an early lead with Twins up by four in the first two innings. They consolidated further, scoring six runs in the next two innings as Angels could only return four runs. Heading into the ninth, Minnesota had wrapped up the game with a 14-5 lead.

Hicks was chosen to deliver the final innings in order to protect some bullpen arms. The 34-year-old ended up conceding a solo home run off Ryan Jeffers as the game ended 16-5 in favor of the Twins.

Fans were quickly onto the scene as they trolled Hicks for his efforts on the mound.

"Can’t believe he’s still posing as a baseball player," one fan said.

"Dude's really out there like "new position, who dis?" Lol," another fan commented.

"They should've tried to make him a pitcher a long time ago," a fan joked.

"He should just become a pitcher now. Extend that career baby!" another fan said along similar lines.

"2024 AL CY Young winner," one fan declared.

"Think about it… cashman truly believed in this guy to be an OF for the ny Yankees," another fan wrote referencing to Hicks' term in the Bronx.

Angels off to another poor start in 2024

With a 10-17 record in the first month of fixtures, the Los Angeles Angels are already five games behind the division leaders Seattle Mariners.

Yet to make the playoffs since 2014 and have a winning record in the last eight years, the Halos are staying down the barrel at yet another disappointing season.

Things have to change quickly as the Angels after completing their series against Minnesota, will host two in-form teams in the Philadelphia Phillies and Cleveland Guardians.
